Relationship Scientist
About
My name is Giulia (Julia with a G) and I'm a relationship scientist and Post-Doctoral Fellow at the department of Medical Psychology at Amsterdam University Medical Centers. As a social psychologist, I study how people manage the messy parts of romantic relationships and the effects of relationships on wellbeing. I am interested in mixed and conflicted feelings, (mis)perceptions, and how norms and expectations shape relational experiences. I am generally curious about the science and history of love.
My Research
Ambivalence in Romantic Relationships
People often experience positive feelings towards their partner and like the person that they are with. However, relationships can be difficult and challenging, bringing people to also experience negative feelings towards their significant other. How do people manage these mixed and conflicting feelings? How common are they? When do they arise and what are their consequences?
(Mis)Perceptions in Romantic Relationships
Perception is not reality, but it colors how people view and react to one another. How accurate are people's perceptions of their romantic partner? How do these perceptions shape how people feel about their relationship? And how do norms and expectations shape these relational experiences and persona?
